...is beginning its 44th season, continuing to fulfill our mission of providing high quality musical performances, youth education and cultural outreach programs. The organization primarily serves Fremont and the neighboring communities such as Newark, Union City and Hayward. The Symphony also draws audiences from the regions of northern Alameda County and central Contra Costa in addition to Milpitas and as far west as Palo Alto and the Peninsula. With an orchestra of professional musicians, the Fremont Symphony Orchestra is a publicly held 501(c)(3) non profit organization.
Our History
Founded in 1964 as the Fremont-Newark Philharmonic Society, the orchestra was first comprised of both professional and community musicians. In 1980 the orchestra became a fully professional ensemble known as the Fremont Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra’s recent renown is owed in large part to the continuity of musical leadership with twenty-seven consecutive seasons under the baton of David Sloss.
Our Board of Directors
The Board of Directors has also demonstrated exceptional stewardship by leading the organization through the worst economic downturn of the region and maintaining its solid financial position. The Symphony takes pride in the fairness and integrity with which it treats its musicians, offering competitive wages and by according individual attention so that every musician may achieve the highest possible standard of artistic excellence. For over 25 years, the Fremont Symphony has maintained the highest musician retention rate of any orchestra in the Bay Area. Similarly, the organization’s subscriber base remains constant with a renewal rate of 99% and 1% in new subscriptions each season.
Our Volunteers
The Fremont Symphony has developed a highly skilled corps of volunteers from diverse professional backgrounds, who collaborate with the Board and staff to organize the majority of the Symphony's performances and special events. The Symphony has two main areas of activity: a) a subscription concert series featuring the symphony orchestra, and b) various educational activities to develop future audiences for the performing arts.
